Wavespeed Calculations For Slurries

When performing transient slurry calculations, the wavespeed for fluids must be adjusted to account for solids suspended in the fluid.

The adjusted equation includes the addition of the bulk modulus and density of the solids, which are Ks and ρs, as well as the volumetric concentration of solids, Cv. Equation 21 from Jacobs, 1991Jacobs, B.E.A., Design of Slurry Transport Systems, ELSEVIER SCIENCE PUBLISHERS LTD, New York, NY, 1991. can be rearranged as follows.

The fluid bulk modulus is Kf, the fluid density is ρf, D is the pipe inner diameter, E is the pipe modulus of elasticity, and e is the pipe wall thickness (referred to in Jacobs as t).
