Positive Displacement Compressor

To model a positive displacement compressor, select the Positive Displacement option on the Compressor Model tab of the Compressor/Fan Properties window. There are two subtypes of positive displacement compressors. Generally, the Fixed Flow Rate model is used for positive displacement compressors that do not function with a piston mechanism, or when configuration information for a reciprocating compressor is unknown.

• Fixed Flow Rate Compressor - Represents a steady state approximation of a positive displacement compressor. The flow is fixed to a constant value, and whatever head is necessary to obtain that flow will be supplied.

• Reciprocating Compressor - Represents a compressor in which pistons connected to one or more crankshafts are used to pressurize a volume of gas. Cylinders can be arranged by single cylinder, opposed cylinders, inline, and V cylinder options. Single and double-acting configurations are available.
