Relief Valve Transient Theory

The Relief Valve junction in AFT xStream allows users to model a rupture disk in the system, and behaves similarly to a regular exit valve. When closed, the relief valve behaves identically to a closed exit valve or a dead end. When open, the relief valve relieves to the user-specified Exit Pressure.

When the Relief Valve junction is defined using the CdA Subsonic Loss Model, the losses across the junction are determined as described in the Discharge Coefficient Loss Model topic.

When the Relief Valve junction is defined using the K Factor Subsonic Loss Model, the losses across the junction are determined as described on the K Factor Loss Model topic.
