Junction Loss Factors

During the sizing process, the size of junctions will implicitly change along with the size of the neighboring pipes.

Junctions which use handbook loss factors will automatically adjust their loss value when the pipe size changes. For example, a Bend junction defined as a Smooth Bend uses built-in relationships to determine a loss based on pipe area and r/D. As the pipe size changes, this loss value will change automatically.

However, a built-in loss model that updates for different pipe sizes is not always available. Many junctions allow the specification of a Loss Multiplier Table as seen below.

With a base loss factor (K-Factor, in Figure 1), ANS can use this table to determine how much to adjust the loss by when changing the associated pipe diameters. This can be done by inputting the Diameter and K-factor columns, specifying one of the rows as a multiplier of one, then using the Calculate Multipliers button below the table.
