Verification Case 32

View Model     Problem Statement

PRODUCT: AFT Fathom

TITLE: FthVerify32.fth

REFERENCE: Crane Co., Flow of Fluids Through Valves, Fittings, and Pipe, Technical Paper No. 410, Crane Co., Joliet, IL, 1988, Page 4-5, Example 4-9

FLUID: SAE 70 Lube Oil at 100 deg. F

ASSUMPTIONS: Inlet pressure is 200 psig, and the gate valve is located 100 feet from the inlet (this does not affect the answer)

RESULTS:

Parameter Crane AFT Fathom
Pressure drop (psid) 56.6 56.67

DISCUSSION:

Because of the high oil viscosity, there is laminar flow in the pipes. The total pressure change in AFT Fathom can be found in two places. First, the discharge presssure (143.3 psig) can be subtracted from the inlet pressure (200 psig). Second, the pressure difference is given in the Junction Deltas table at the top of the Output window. The junction delta was setup in the Output Control window.
