Buried Pipe Heat Transfer

Buried Pipe Heat Transfer follows a form very similar to the Convective Heat Transfer models.

The Heat Transfer tab in the Pipe Properties window. The Heat Transfer Model is set to Buried Pipe.

The differences between convective heat transfer and buried pipe heat transfer are:

  • The Ambient Conditions are now the Soil Surface Temperature and Buried Pipe Depth. Specifically, the Soil Surface Temperature asks for the temperature of the soil at the ground surface (as opposed to the ambient air temperature), while the Buried Pipe Depth asks for the distance between the ground surface and pipe centerline.

  • The External Resistance Type is replaced with Soil. This requires a User Specified value of conductivity for the soil
