USB to eLicense Transitions
Overview
Please read the Disclaimers at the bottom of this page before initiating a license transition.
The process involves action from both parties through a series of email file exchanges.
-
You send the USB Key Information file (.aki) generated by HASPKeyFind.exe to Support and tell us you want to proceed with the license transition.
-
Support sends back a temporary eLicense with the same products and a USB Key Update file (.aku) to wipe the key.
-
You test the eLicense in your IT infrastructure to confirm it works before wiping the key.
-
You wipe the key by applying the .aku file patch via HASPKeyFind.exe.
-
You send another new .aki file to Support to confirm the key was wiped.
-
Support removes temporary restrictions on the eLicense and finalizes the transition in our records.
Step 1: Send us the initial key information file (.aki)
You can complete this step from any machine with the USB Copy Protection installed. It won't interrupt software use.
-
Launch the HASPKeyFind.exe utility from C:\AFT Products. If this utility is not present, then it will need to be installed by following the USB Key Driver Installation instructions for a green standalone key.
-
Click Find Key in the lower-left and ensure the appropriate key is found by checking the Key ID listed at the top and available products listed.
-
Click Save Key ID and name the file with the Key ID and your company name (ex. 123456789-Company.aki).
-
Email the aki file and written confirmation you want to proceed with the license transition to flow-support@datacor.com.
Step 2: Support sends you a temporary eLicense & key update file (.aku)
We will add the appropriate products to the eLicense and set it to expire in 2-3 weeks. You will need to test and finalize the transition in this time. We are willing to be flexible and provide more time if necessary. If we do not hear back from you then the temporary eLicense will expire, but we can re-use it if you contact us at a later date and are ready to proceed again. We will also prepare an update patch (.aku file) for the USB Key that will wipe all products from the key. Please test the eLicense first in the next step and keep the aku file for a later step.
Step 3: Test the eLicense in your IT environment
Refer to the following instructions depending on what versions your users need access to:
Make sure you are able to open all applicable products and add-on modules on the eLicense before wiping the USB key to prevent interruption in access to the products.
-
Small teams: Coordinate a time with your team and physically unplug the key, then try to launch an application using the eLicense.
-
Large teams: You will likely want to set up a dedicated test machine or isolated environment that cannot connect with the USB Key such that you can perform testing without impacting normal software availability. Then, you can test opening an application from the eLicense. However, ensure that the test machine or environment properly mimics the actual operating conditions of typical users (i.e. Firewall rules etc).
Step 4: Apply the update patch to wipe the key
-
Launch HASPKeyFind.exe again and click Find Key.
-
Ensure the correct Key ID is listed. Thankfully the aku file cannot be applied to a different key by accident.
-
Click Update Key and select the aku file. The patching process may take several minutes.
-
A confirmation message will appear once the patch is finished. You can click Find Key again to confirm that no products are available.
Step 5: Send us a new key information file (.aki)
-
In HASPKeyFind.exe click Save Key ID and send the aki file to us via the pre-established email chain.
-
Support will use this new key information file to verify that you properly applied the wipe.
Step 6: Support removes temporary eLicense restrictions & finalizes records
Once we confirm the key was properly wiped we will remove the temporary expiration date on the eLicense and update our internal records on your account. We recommend that you either mail the key back to us or dispose of it.
-
Direct Customers - Mail the key back to us
Attn: Support Team
2955 Professional Place, Suite 301

Note: Do not ship USB keys with active licenses! If a USB key with an active license is lost in transit, the license itself will be considered lost and must be replaced at the full cost of a new license.
-
Channel Partner Customers - Mail the key back to your designated Channel Partner if they request it
-
Dispose of the key in another way such as throwing it out
No proprietary data is stored on the key. It only contains encrypted memory sectors with information about what products, versions, and number of seats were on the key. No engineering or model file data of any kind is stored on the key.
Disclaimers
-
Cost: There is no cost to convert your legacy USB Key licenses to eLicenses so long as you have an active contract. If your support contract is expired then you must reinstate it first.
-
One eLicense ID: If you have multiple licenses they will be consolidated onto a single Network eLicense. This single shared eLicense can be used by multiple locations/offices. We will not segment certain seats onto different eLicense codes.
-
Requires Internet Connection: When using an eLicense our applications will need to query our vendor's licensing servers to determine if you have seats available for the product you are trying to access. For companies that have strict Firewalls the specific details are listed below:
